Pubs, bars and restaurants… Ok the whole of hospitality there’s just too much going on and not enough time.
We spend all day working through a never ending to-do list only to discover a new crisis ‘cause the bins didn’t get collected this week and the dishwasher is leaking; the chef burnt his arm and is on the way to A&E and the function room is double booked for a family dinner and a salsa class tomorrow; there is a busy lunch service but the dray delivery hasn’t arrived yet…
It is not a typical working environment for anyone else except those in the industry who live it day to day with you but… there has never been enough time to get to know anyone else senior (who doesn’t work with you) properly in the industry. There doesn’t appear to be anyone who has anytime to chat, mull it over or swap stories with.
The only people you know are the owners of the place down the road and the ones from the nearby village. Either their experience does not quite translate, or you can’t really share ideas cause technically you are competing.
Everyone else is just plain competition and has closed doors and turned backs to protect their own businesses from what they perceive as your potential espionage.
But wouldn’t it be nice to just give yourself a little bit of time to sit down, grab a coffee and chat to other owner operators from across the UK who share your frustrations.
People who know how hard it is sometimes and have lived through exactly the same issues that you are facing now. Others who don’t feel that there is a risk from the ‘competition’ and are more than happy to make friends and share experiences and ideas. Individuals who you may even be able to help with whatever they are facing today - you probably found the solution last week!
Kith & Kin is a friendly community of owner/operators and senior managers from across the pub bar and restaurant industry coming together to do just that.
Meeting on Zoom there is no need to travel so the expense and time is already saved and we can ‘network’ with people from around the whole of the UK allowing a greater variety of experience and expertise to be available.
The format is relaxed and easy and facilitated by Cassie Davison to make sure that the conversation runs smoothly, so no awkward silence or cringy moments. Cassie has over 25 years of experience in the hospitality industry including 20 years opening and operating her own award-winning venues.
Every session lasts only 1 hour in order that it is easy to fit into your hectic days and groups are a minimum of 5 and maximum of 12 participants to make sure that there is room for valuable conversation.
The topics for discussion are set by the participants on that day so every conversation is different. If you have a burning issue or question, then we can spend time discussing that and gaining the perspective of participants who will share their advice and experience. If you don’t have issues or don’t feel like talking there is no pressure.
We hope that from joining in with us you get to contribute to others, meet new people and perhaps gain some inspiration and who knows, when you meet others who can help build your ideas what collaborations and innovations might happen?
